A FRAIL widow was mugged in the doorway of her home as she returned from the bingo.
Police believe the frightened pensioner was attacked by a drug addict as she was closing the door to her East Durham home.
Officers released details of the attack just a day after the Hartlepool Mail reported how two women had become the latest victims in a series of town muggings.
Lateral shoulder bags Handbags In the Horden incident, a 67-year-old was attacked after catching a taxi back from the Carlton Bingo Hall in the village's Sunderland Road and walking just a few yards to her back door.
She let herself into the house and as she tried to shut the door the teenage robber suddenly appeared and pushed his way into her home.
He pulled at her handbag as she tried to fend him off.
But the strap snapped and he managed to steal the bag containing [pounds sterling]40 cash and a building society book.
The pensioner, who has not been named, fell to the floor as the attacker made his escape.
Detective Constable Bruce Harriman, of Peterlee CID, said the teenager was almost certainly in the near vicinity and seized the opportunity to mug the infirm pensioner.
The officer said the victim has difficulty walking and added: "This mugging is likely to have been carried out by a heroin addict prepared to do anything to get some cash for drugs.
"It was a cowardly attack on a defenceless woman and it is imperative we catch him as quickly as possible."
The pensioner suffered injuries to her wrist and arm during the attack.
She was so Other Brands Jewellery bruised and shaken by her ordeal that she at first did not want it reporting to the media.
However, she bravely relented because she wanted the people of East Durham to know what had happened.
The teenage attacker is described as aged 15-16-years-old, 5ft 6ins tall, clean shaven and of thin build.
He was wearing a dark coloured baseball cap and dark jacket and trousers.
Only yesterday the Mail revealed how Betty Jeffreys, of West View, Hartlepool, was mugged for just a few coppers when a yob pushed her to the ground and stole her handbag.
The incident took place outside the Fisherman's Arms pub, in Southgate, on the Headland, at 10.55pm last Friday.
The 74-year-old bravely spoke about her trauma and fears she
embroidered patches may have damaged her hip.
Meanwhile, officers are also searching for a mugger who stole a woman's handbag as she entered the South Durham Social Club in the town's Westbourne Road at 8.30pm last Thursday.
